City of Gold tour

We took a tour of Johannesburg with "Simba" our hired driver. He was from Soweto and offered some real insight into the good and bad of the City of Gold. We drove all around; from the million dollar homes in the rich suburbs to the sea of shanty towns. It amazed us how big the gap is from the rich and poor here. In some areas, there were more tin shacks then you could count. Literally, a sea of poverty with one shack after another.

Simba told us that "we should go out and explore because at the end of life, God will ask you what you did, and if you say you stayed in your room, he will be disappointed. You must go out and look left and look right and you're mind will open."

A pic from Simba's car entering Johannesburg

Soweto. Across the street from Mandela's first house - now a museum. We stopped at a restaurant across the street for some traditional food and these girls and a papa started dancing for all the tourists.

Having a Castle beer and some Southern African food with Simba.

Marijuana...free to you and me.
Simba was quick to point out the
wild marijuana growing in Soweto.
