Geoff's 30th Birthday Extravaganza Continues at Sun City!

We headed to Sun City Resort for a fabulous weekend of pool-side drinks, good food, a beautiful hotel and relaxation. After driving over 2 hours literally in the middle of nowhere, we encountered the "Palace of the Lost City" hotel - an enormous hotel complex in the middle of a man-made jungle with a man-made beach. The attention to detail was amazing - each room had its own carved wood door and the ceiling of the entrance took 5000 hours to paint. All in all, a very good weekend and RELAXING. We didn't have too much luck on the blackjack table...but the Pina Colada's by the pool were AMAZING.

Entrance to the "Palace of the Lost City." Antelopes shooting water. Look out.

It was very beautiful, if a little "Indiana Jones."

View from the pool.

Entrance to the Palace. Very detailed and very impressive.

View from our room.
Lauren and Geoff in front of the huge man-made beach / wave pool in the absolute middle of the African bush. Crazy!

It was really amazing to see this.

Then all of a sudden this giant elephant attacked Geoff!

Here is something you would never see in the States - so of course we had to take a picture. Look closely at the child holding his ears in pain while the guys fill up the giant plastic ball. Mind you there were no holes in the ball...

And away they go...have fun trying to breath kids!
Look at them trying to escape while their parents went to the bar.

Geoff and Lauren - living the rough life in Africa!
Sun City was nice, but so bizarre that all this excess is amongst so much poverty. It's actually very difficult to wrap your head around because you literally drive through miles and miles of shanty towns and then come across this grand entrance to a multi-million dollar complex. It was a good trip, but were were glad to come back to Jozi. It's a great city with so much to offer and we missed our home!
