Our first Road Trip! Mpumalanga

We headed to a little town called Sabie, a former mining town near the Blyde River Canyon in the Mpumalanga province, for the holiday weekend. We stayed at a B&B run by a Swiss German couple called Felix and Uta (Geoff insisted upon referring to them as "Hansel and Gretel"). We had some excellent meals- crocodile, kukdu, rump and steak skewers and a South African dish called bobotie (minced beef with raisins baked with egg in a ceramic dish or pot) as well as some lovely South African wines. We ate like royalty for very very cheap. We hope you enjoy these pictures of some of our adeventures- hiking, mountain biking, and site-seeing.

Jumped out of the car for a photo op along the road

"God's Window"- a view from the escarpment

HIPPO CROSSING! A huge babbon ran out in front of our car,
but we were glad it wasn't a hippo!

"The Pinnacle" a 100-foot quarzite "needle" that
rises above the fern-clad ravine

Geoff in action. We rented bikes and wandered through the wilderness.

Berlin Falls- one of many waterfalls
A little buddy waiting for tourists to drop some chips!
He fled everytime we took out the camera- Cheeky Monkey!
Bourke's Luck Potholes- where the Treur and Blyde Rivers converge- gorgeous!

A lovely day to explore the potholes!
